Privacy Policy
Last updated 10 October 2026
Dating is personal, so privacy matters more here than almost anywhere. This notice explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and the choices and rights you have under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act").
1. Who we are
Saathi Technologies Private Limited, Registered office address, India, is the Data Fiduciary for the personal data processed through the Saathi app and website. Questions about this notice can go to privacy@saathi.app or to our Grievance Officer (see section 12).

3. Why we use it
We process your data on the basis of the consent you give when you sign up and when you turn on optional features, and for the legitimate uses allowed by Section 7 of the DPDP Act (such as complying with the law, court orders and medical or safety emergencies).
- Run the service: create your account, show your profile, suggest matches by distance, age, intent and preferences, deliver messages, connect calls and send notifications.
- Keep members safe: verify photos and selfies, detect fake accounts, spam and scams (for example, messages asking for money or UPI transfers are checked automatically and may be flagged), review reports, enforce our guidelines and help in emergencies.
- Paid features: confirm purchases with the store, apply your plan and limits, and handle refunds and disputes.
- Improve Saathi: understand which features work, fix bugs and measure performance, using aggregated or de-identified data wherever we can.
- Meet legal duties: respond to lawful requests, keep records the law requires, and handle grievances.
We do not sell personal data, use it for third-party advertising, or let advertisers target you. We do not make decisions with legal effects about you by automated means alone; any account ban is reviewed by a person.
4. Sensitive information
Some things you may share, such as your sexual orientation (implied by who you want to see), religion, community and horoscope details, are especially sensitive. These are optional except where needed for matching (gender and who you want to see). We use them only to show your profile to the right people and, for horoscope details, to calculate Kundli compatibility when you ask for it. You can remove optional details or hide your horoscope at any time.
Verification selfies are used only to compare against your profile photos. Face detection during capture runs on your device; the selfie is stored privately, seen only by our trust and safety team, and never shown to other members.
5. What other members see
- Your profile (first name, age, photos, bio, prompts, interests and the details you choose to show), your intent and your verified badge.
- Your approximate distance and city — never your exact location.
- Your activity status and read receipts, unless you turn them off or use Incognito.
- In Vibe Check, only your first name until both of you choose to reveal photos.
- If you create a family share link, anyone with the link can see a read-only version of your profile until you turn it off.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers (Data Processors) who act on our instructions under contract, and only what they need:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| MSG91 (India) | Sending one-time passwords and safety SMS to you and your trusted contacts |
| Google Firebase | Push notifications and, where used, phone number sign-in |
| Google and Apple | Sign-in (if you choose it) and processing in-app purchases |
| Cloud storage and hosting providers | Storing photos, voice notes and app data securely |
Audio and video calls run on infrastructure we operate and are not recorded. Content moderation tools also run on our own servers.
We may also disclose data to government agencies or courts when Indian law requires it (for example, under Rule 3(1)(j) of the IT Rules, 2021), to protect someone's life or safety, or to a successor if Saathi is merged or acquired — in which case this notice will continue to protect your data.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your account and profile | Until you delete your account |
| Photos, messages, voice notes, selfies and other content after you delete your account | 30 days (so you can change your mind), then permanently erased |
| Registration details (name, phone, email, date of birth, sign-up date) after deletion | 180 days, as required by Rule 3(1)(h) of the IT Rules, 2021, then erased |
| Messages attached to a report | Up to 180 days after deletion, or longer if an investigation or court order requires it |
| Purchase records | 8 years, as required by tax and accounting law |
| Security logs | Up to 1 year, as required by the DPDP Rules, 2025 and CERT-In directions |
| Safe Date live location | Only while the Safe Date is active |
If you do not use your account for a long period, we may contact you and then delete it as the DPDP Rules require.
8. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
- Access a summary of your data and how it is processed — use Settings → Download my data in the app;
- Correct, complete or update your data — edit your profile at any time;
- Erase your data — use Settings → Delete account, or see this page;
- Withdraw consent — as easily as you gave it, by turning off a feature, revoking a phone permission or deleting your account. Withdrawal does not affect processing already done;
- Nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become incapacitated — write to us;
- Grievance redressal — through our Grievance Officer, and then the Data Protection Board of India if you are not satisfied.
We respond to rights requests within the time the DPDP Rules allow, and we may ask you to confirm your identity first.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit (TLS) for all traffic, encrypted storage for private media, short-lived signed links for photos and selfies, strict staff access controls with audit logs, and screenshot blocking on chat screens (Android). No system is perfectly secure; if a personal data breach affects you, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
10. Children
Saathi is only for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly process children's data. If we learn a member is under 18, we delete the account. If you believe a child is using Saathi, report it in the app or write to safety@saathi.app. See our Child Safety Standards.
11. Where data is stored
We primarily store data in India. Some providers (such as Google and Apple) may process data in other countries; we only transfer data to countries not restricted by the Government of India under Section 16 of the DPDP Act.
